Everything I Am: The Woman, the Flute, and Being Known

October 04, 2026

Every commission begins the same way.

Someone trusts me with their story.

This one began with a woman who told me about a flute.

She spoke about her heritage and the meaning she finds in creating something with her own breath and hands — something ancient, intentional, and deeply human — in a world that is constantly asking us to consume more and create less.

But as she spoke, I realized the flute wasn't the story.

It was the doorway into it.

Because beneath every detail, every memory, every object we cherish, there is something deeper waiting to be seen.

I wasn't painting the facts of her life.

I wasn't even painting her face as she exists in this season of her life.

I was painting the part of her that time cannot touch.

The part that has always been there.

The part that carries her history, her values, her longing, her spirit.

The part that makes her unmistakably her.

And I think, in some way, this is what we are all searching for.

Not just to be loved.

To be known.

To have someone look beyond the roles we've played, the things we've accomplished, the versions of ourselves we've had to become…

…and recognize the quiet, eternal thread that has been woven through our entire story.

The thing we have felt our whole lives, but maybe never had the words to explain.

This is why I paint.

Because somewhere along my own journey, I realized this is what my soul is here to do.

To listen deeply.

To recognize the stories hidden beneath the surface.

To take the pieces of who you are — the memories, the symbols, the dreams, the things you carry but cannot always name…

…and bring them to life.

Not as a portrait of who you were.

But as a reminder of who you have always been.

A piece of art that becomes a mirror.

A place where your story can exist outside of you.

So that one day, when someone stands in front of it and asks,

"What's the story behind this?"

You won't have to search for the words.

Because the painting will have already begun telling it.
